Kinshasa: Five people have been arrested following an attack on Joseph Kabila's residence

Léopold Manzambi, the mayor of Gombe, confirmed the arrests and stated that there were clashes between the guards at the residence and the attackers. However, there were no serious injuries or deaths reported.

Manzambi also mentioned that the group responsible for the attack may have been involved in a larger conspiracy conflict.

"The story began at Uvira Avenue, where a trial was taking place. One side had won, which interested the people of the so-called Forces of Progress. They were seen in the building stealing and looting. The police came to disperse them," explained Léopold Manzambi.

He says he is waiting for the police's conclusions. "Now it’s calm, we can move around easily without any problem. For security reasons, we have requested that vehicles not pass in front of the residence of the former President," he added.

Physically eliminate me

The wife of former President Joseph Kabila, Marie-Olive Lembe, was present in the GLM residence during an attack and is denouncing the intrusion. She is calling on President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi to intervene. Olive Lembe Kabila expressed shock at the breach of the residence of the former President of the Republic, stating that the attackers came in large numbers with the intent to physically harm her.

She emphasized that they were determined to force their way into the residence.

"This is the consequence of violating the security perimeter of the residence of the honorary President of the DRC. We will resist because we are in our country. We were born here, we studied here, and we produce here. It is not these bandits who will convince us to abandon our country," said Olive Lembe.

She also expressed shock at the violation of the former President's residence. Gunshots were heard in Gombe, a residential commune and headquarters of institutions in the city of Kinshasa shortly before noon on July 31.

Witnesses captured videos showing several dozen young people confronting the police, who were attempting to prevent them from accessing the residence of Senator for Life Joseph Kabila.
