Rwanda has learned through from Media that Burundi is closed its borders

Since this Thursday’s noon on social media, people talked about how the Government of Burundi has closed its borders with Rwanda. However, some Burundians said that their government has restricted the movement since the morning, while others said that this decision has started since 10:00 AM.

The meeting took place in the Kayanza district of Burundi, Martin Niteretse, Minister of Internal Security of Burundi, said that they closed its borders.

" I'm telling you and understand me, don't ever pass by Nemba-Gasenyi or Kanyaru heading to Rwanda, Never!"

" We don't want them, and the ones belong here in our land, We also run out of them."

The people of both countries are not surprised with this decision of the Government of Burundi, because the President of Burundi, Gen Evariste NDAYISHIMIYE accused Rwanda of supporting the Burundian label called ‘Red Tabara’ which is against their country.

He said also that Rwanda feeds and protects them, and gives them whatever they want to disturb Burundi, especially in the attack that happened at Gatumba on 22nd December, 2023, and more than 20 people were killed. President Gen NDAYISHIMIYE mentioned that his country will close its borders with Rwanda, through his speech at the end of the year.

However, the government of Rwanda rejected this accusation.  His statement said that Rwanda regrets the unilateral border closure by Burundi.

Some People believe that there is another reason behind this decision of the Government of Burundi because they can not understand why the government concluded this.

It was not the first time this country chose to close its borders,  was also closed in 2015 following a diplomatic row. At that time, Burundi accused Rwanda of playing a big role in their insecurity issues. The Burundian authorities had been demanding Rwanda to hand over alleged perpetrators of the attempted coup in Burundi in 2015.
