Following the retirement of former Labour MP Andrew Gwynne, a by-election was held in Manchester's Gorton and Denton parliamentary district on Thursday. Hannah Spencer, the Green Party of England and Wales candidate, was proclaimed the winner. According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), a 14-year-old girl was killed by a female lion at a ranch south of Nairobi National Park in Nairobi, Kenya's capital. The lioness was still missing as of Friday. To find the lioness, search teams swept the area and authorities placed traps. In Africa, lion attacks on people are uncommon, particularly when they do not include animals. According to KWS officials, talks were taking place to "reinforce security measures" in an attempt to stop future occurrences of the same kind.
