In North Kivu, displaced people are urging the DRC government to find a solution

Thousands of displaced people are fleeing clashes between the FARDC and M23 rebels in the region, continuing to flock to the rural commune of Lubero-Centre, the capital of the Lubero territory in North Kivu. They are deprived of everything and claim to be "going through an ordeal." These displaced people call on the DRC government to seek a resolution so everyone can return home.

In North Kivu, displaced people are urging the DRC government to find a solution

The displaced people, mostly women and children, are fleeing from Kanyabayonga, Kirumba, and Kayina, which the M23 occupies as Okapi radio took it. Many claim to have travelled between 100 and 135 kilometres on foot before arriving in Lubero Center.

"We fled Kanyabayonga towards Kirumba, and they followed us to Kirumba, but we managed to reach Lubero. We are resting here, but we are going to starve. We urgently need help with food and medicine. We walked from Kirumba to Lubero. I have four children, and without water or food, we have experienced great suffering on our way. With the children, we have suffered a lot since the start of this war. We urge the government to find a solution so that everyone can return to their original environment," testified a displaced person.

In Lubero centre, displaced people spend the night either in schools or under the stars. Several humanitarian workers have left Lubero territory due to insecurity and fear of disinformation.
