Mali: Pro-Junta Figures Accused of Inciting Violence Amid Political Crackdown
Two prominent members of Mali’s Transitional Council (CNT) are facing legal action for inciting violence against pro-democracy supporters.

Biton Mamari Coulibaly and Moulaye Keita, known for their strong backing of the military-led government, were formally accused on May 21, 2025, at the country’s cybercrime court. The charges stem from videos they released earlier this month, allegedly encouraging threats and attacks on those who oppose the current regime.
They are being prosecuted for public insults, defamation, and death threats, in what critics say is a test of Mali's judicial independence. The cybercrime unit, often criticized for silencing opposition voices, is now being asked to demonstrate impartiality by investigating these two powerful regime allies.
The case is seen by many as a key moment to determine whether Malian justice applies equally to both critics and supporters of the junta.
