Rwanda Election: Kagame secures 99.18% of the votes, while 3 parties fail to reach the 5% threshold to enter parliament
The provisional results of the Presidential Election revealed that Paul Kagame, as the President-elect, secured an outstanding 99.18 percent of the vote, according to the announcement of the National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Thursday, July 18. Moreover, in the parliamentary elections, three political parties failed to receive the 5% vote required for parliamentary seats, differing from the initial announcement.

Although three political parties initially received over 5% of the votes in the first provisional results, on the evening of 16th July, all these parties and the only private one fell short of the minimum 5% of the votes required to get a seat in the Chamber of Deputies. This means that these parties don’t win any seats in Parliament at this time.
The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda of Dr Frank Habineza received 4.56 percent of the votes while at the first time was 5.30 percent, the Ideal Democratic Party (PDI) of Sheikh Mussa Fazil Harerimana secured 4.61 percent while at the first time was 5.81 percent, and PS-Imberakuri of Nyirabunani got 4.51 percent; while the first provisional results showed that it was 5.26 percent of the votes. Janvier Nsengimana, who ran as an independent, received 0.21 percent of the votes; descended 0.30 percent, according to provisional results announced by NEC Chairperson Mrs Oda Gasinzigwa on Thursday.
RPF and its coalition allies secured 68.83% of the votes; while at the first time was 62.67%, the majority in the July 15 parliamentary general elections.
The Liberal Party (PL) secured 8.66 percent of the votes; while was 10.97%, and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) received 8.62 percent of the votes, while was 9.48%.
On the other side; the provisional results of the presidential election showed that Paul Kagame as President-elect secured an outstanding 99.18 percent of the votes. His vote increased by 0.03 percent.
His closest rival, Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party, managed only 0.50 percent of the vote, while independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana trailed with 0.32 percent.
