Israel-Hamas war: Gaza's Al Shifa hospital no longer functions as a hospital - Tedros

"Regrettably, the hospital is not functioning as a hospital anymore," he noted in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter

“The situation is dire and perilous. It has been 3 days without electricity, without water, and with very poor internet which has severely impacted our ability to provide essential care”, he added.

“The constant gunfire and bombings in the area have exacerbated the already critical circumstances.”

He requires a ceasefire immediately, and how the world can’t be silent while the hospitals, which should be the safe havens are transformed into scenes of death, devastation, and despair.

IDF doesn’t say anything about these tragedies. But Israel accuses Hamas of using the hospital as a cover for a command center without providing proof. Hamas has denied the accusations.

Many politicians and human rights fighters guilt Israel to disobey human rights law. According to Gaza’s Al Shifa hospital, it’s important to protect medical buildings and staff in war, especially the Geneva Convention which says that the medical facilities and staff must remain neutral during wars. All parties must value and protect them, and attacks on these facilities are not allowed.

The conditions of not having electricity, water, and good internet make the situation very hard to give basic care to the patients, who directly are affected by their chances of survival and the emergency situation.

The director general of hospitals in Gaza warns the lives of hundreds of patients are at risk because of the catastrophic situation at this hospital.

And Palestinian Minister of Health Mai al-Kaila says Israeli forces are not evacuating people from hospitals; instead, they are forcibly evicting the wounded onto the streets, leaving them to face inevitable death”.

He said this; in case Gaza City’s al-Shifa Hospital has been caught in Israel’s ground offensive and health officials say its cardiac ward has been destroyed.
