Election of senators and provincial governors in DRC: Félix Tshisekedi warns followers of corruption
President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi instructed Rose Mutombo Kiese, Minister of Justice, to take strong and prompt action to neutralize all provincial elected officials who engage in corruption. This is in anticipation of the upcoming elections for senators, governors, and vice-governors of the provinces, scheduled for April.

The President emphasized the need for the Attorney General at the Court of Cassation to be involved in imposing severe sanctions to discourage this form of unethical behavior.
The Minister of Justice declared that selling votes in elections should not be tolerated, and there must be severe sanctions for anyone caught engaging in such open corruption.
He emphasized the gravity of the situation by stating that open corruption must come to an end, and the country cannot continue to accept it. The Minister called for severe sanctions to be imposed on any individual caught selling their vote to prevent such behavior from happening in future elections.
The elections of senators, governors, and vice-governors were initially scheduled for March and April 7, 2024, respectively but were postponed by three weeks.
The rearranged calendar, as published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), provided for the holding of the senatorial elections on April 21 and the vote of governors and vice-governors on the 28th of the same month.
